What Is Restylane?

Restylane LogoRestylane® is an injectable dermal filler that can minimize the effects of facial aging by restoring lost volume and smoothing wrinkles and folds. Similar to the popular filler JUVÉDERM®, Restylane is composed of a clear gel substance that contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a compound naturally found in the human body. HA has shown to provide natural-looking rejuvenation when injected into target areas of the face, as it fills sunken areas and restores hydration. Our skin care experts and nurse practitioners, led by Kevan Petterson, DNP, ARNP, utilize Restylane to help patients reduce unwanted signs of facial aging as well as provide the lips with a fuller appearance.

Where Is Restylane Used?

Restylane can provide beautiful smoothing results for moderate to severe facial wrinkles. Common areas treated with Restylane injections include nasolabial folds (the lines that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth) and marionette lines (the lines that form from the corners of the mouth down to the chin). Restylane is also FDA-approved to enhance the size of the lips for patients 21 years and older. Whether they have thinning lips due to age, or they have always wanted a fuller lip shape, patients who choose lip enhancement with Restylane can expect a more plump and defined lip appearance.

How Long Does Restylane Last?

As with any with dermal filler, Restylane injections provides temporary improvement for age-related skin concerns. In a clinical study, patients who received Restylane injections continued to see improvement for as long as 18 months after their initial treatment. Our injectors advise patients that if they like the results they received with Restylane, they can schedule follow-up appointments to touch up their results for longer-lasting results.

Are There Any Side Effects to Restylane?

Side effects associated with Restylane are typically mild and resolve within one week for nasolabial folds or two weeks for lip enhancement. This includes swelling, pain, bruising, redness, and tenderness. Our team will discuss the risks of treatment with each patient to ensure they can make an informed decision about their care and are familiar with possible complications that can occur. If patients are concerned about their side effects after treatment, we encourage them to call our office to learn if what they are experiencing is normal and how they can minimize these side effects.

How Much Does Restylane Cost?

The amount that patients can expect to pay for their Restylane treatment will depend upon the unique details of their customized treatment plan. On average, Restylane injections tend to range from $350 to $800 per syringe. The total cost of their session may differ based on the number of areas being treated and the amount of filler needed to achieve the patient’s aesthetic goals. During the consultation process, our aesthetic professionals will evaluate the patient’s areas of concern and listen to what they hope to achieve with treatment. With this information, they can plan their injections and provide a cost quote for their treatment.
