Permanent makeup is ideal for busy people who have little time to spend in front of the mirror applying makeup. What is permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is also known as permanent cosmetics. The service utilizes micropigmentation to implant the color pigment into the upper layers of the epidermis. The purpose of permanent makeup is to utilize specialized tattooing inks and designs to mimic makeup application. Colors are assigned to blend with your natural skin tone to match the encompassing skin. What areas can receive permanent makeup?
The most commonly treated areas are the eyes, eyebrows, and the lips:
- Eyeliner: Amplifies the eye’s beauty by providing definition and thickening the appearance of the lashes.
- Eyebrow: Accentuates the shape of the eyes and will help distinguish the eye as the focal point of the face.
- Lips & Lip Liner: Augments shape and provides definition to the lips. No need to reapply lipstick, no need to be concerned with lipstick bleeding into fine lines around the mouth, and no more concerns about lipstick stains on drinking glasses.
How long does the treatment take?
The time for treatment will vary considerably based on the area as well as the number of areas treated. Typical treatment time for one area is approximately 45 – 90 minutes. In an effort to promote patient comfort during treatment, topical numbing will be applied ahead of time. Permanent makeup procedures are exclusively performed by Dr. Reinertson.
What results can I expect?
Permanent makeup services can be subtle or dramatic, depending on your personal preference. Colors will appear darker immediately after treatment but will soften and lighten a few days to a week following treatment. Similar to tattoos, the color will fade in time and additional service will be required to brighten the pigment. There are environmental influences that will affect the longevity of your results. Sun exposure will play a major role in decreasing the longevity of your permanent makeup. It is important to use a physical sunblock, year round, to help maintain the results of your treatment and subsequently protect your skin from the negative effects of sun damage.
Is the treatment painful?
Permanent makeup has the same sensation as a tattoo procedure; therefore patient discomfort can vary greatly from person to person. The supplement of a topical numbing agent will reduce the sensitivity of treatment.
What are the common side effects?
The most common side effects are: pinpoint bleeding, bruising at the site of treatment, redness, and swelling. Following treatment, tenderness may be experienced for a couple of days. Most of these symptoms will fade within a few days after treatment but can last up to a few weeks. Healing times will vary from patient to patient. If you have any allergies or known allergies to pigment, please notify Dr. Reinertson or a member of our medical staff prior to treatment. This is by no means a complete list of side effects.
