SCLEROTHERAPY & VEIN TREATMENTS
Your dad had them, your grandfather had them . . . and you are starting to see the signs that you too have those large, red or purple veins along the sides of your nose, or along your legs, torso or belly. These are called 'spider veins' as they can often look like red spider webs bursting out of the skin's surface. Treatment for these veins is quite simple and surprisingly painless. Men everywhere are discovering that they don't just have to 'live with it' anymore.
TREATMENT OPTION #1: SCLEROTHERAPY
What is sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is the safest, easiest, and most natural way to treat unsightly spider veins (small, flat, red or purplish veins that often appear like spider webs)- wherever they show up. Dr. Reinertson uses a tiny needle and injects a safe and natural solution that quickly collapses the tiny vessels. A single treatment is usually sufficient - but occasionally a touch-up is necessary. Most treatments take about 15-20 minutes.
Does it hurt?
Individual experience varies, but most people only feel a slight stingy sensation as the fluid enters and collapses the spider vein. Afterwards most patients don't feel any residual sensation.
When can I expect after the treatment?
After a treatment of sclerotherapy, mild compression garments (if legs are treated) can be worn to ensure that the collapsed veins remain closed. The doctor will prescribe the necessary items as needed before you leave. Some patients only require ace bandage wraps - or prefer to wear their own compression items. The area treated will be red and irritated for a few days - however any visible signs of the treatment are temporary and go away once the patient has completely healed.
TREATMENT OPTION #2: LASER
How does laser treatment work?
A cosmetic laser emits a prescribed dose of energy to the vein. The laser "selectively" targets the problem veins while sparing surrounding areas. After treatment, the vessel will naturally disappear.
How many treatments are required?
Typically only one or two treatments are required and results can be seen in 3-4 weeks. Treatment time typically takes 15 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.
Does it hurt?
The treatment causes only minimal discomfort. Any redness or swelling should be gone within a day and you'll be able to resume normal activities immediately.
TREATMENT OPTION #3: IPL/PHOTOFACIAL LASER
Sometimes the vessels along the nose, face or legs don't respond entirely to sclerotherapy, or they are too diffuse (tiny and spread out over a large area) to treat with sclerotherapy. In cases like this we use our highly effective Elos IPL laser to collapse the vessels throughout the area of redness. Learn more about the IPL/Photofacial treatment by clicking here.
