SCAR REVISION
Scarring from acne, chicken pox or other facial injuries are some of the top concerns amongst male consultation clients. The lasting marks that acne in particular leaves not only causes low self-esteem, but it can be a painful emotional reminder of the very negative experience of having struggled with acne in the past.
Luckily we have affordable options available to treat either red, brown or depressed scarring in the skin that is safe for nearly every skin type. The type of treatment we would do on you would depend completely on the type of scarring you are experiencing.
TYPES OF SCARRING AND AVAILABLE TREATMENT OPTIONS
RED AND/OR BROWN DISCOLORATION (SEE TOP PATIENT TO THE RIGHT)
Post acne scarring - sometimes referred to as post inflammatory hyperpigmantation can look as though acne is still present when the lesions themselves are long gone. This type of scarring can have the appearance of being 'pock marked' or pitted - when sometimes it is just the discoloration that gives this appearance. Sometimes red or brown discolorations accompany true pitted scars - in which case we would take a multi-therapy treatment approach. The treatment we use to remove red/brown discoloration and scarring is our IPL/Photofacial laser. Detailed information about this therapy can be found here.
PITTED SCARRING OR POCK MARKS (SEE FOREHEAD PICTURES TO THE RIGHT)
Pitted scars can occur from large acneic cysts, mole removal, chicken pox and/or vaccination/cortisone injection side effects. The divots in the skin can cause extreme self-confidence deficits in patients, especially when they are large or are prominent on the face. We have two methods available to treat pitted scars. Click on the link below to learn more about Laser Resurfacing with the DOT.
Option #1:
Laser Resurfacing with the DOT Smartxide CO2 Laser
The patient in the photos to the right was concerned about a few large pitted scars on his forehead. We treated him with the DOT all over the region and not only did the scars diminish, his deep forehead wrinkles drastically improved as a bonus! This treatment can be done in small sections of the face or the entire face. The amount of 'down-time' can be adjusted for your individual needs and lifestyle with the DOT.
Option #2:
Subscision (aka Needling or dermaplaning)
Subcision is a method used for depressed scars; pitted scarring and ice pick scars. It is helpful for individuals when their pitted scar has left depression and uneven skin surface. This is performed using a tri-beveled hypodermic needle by inserting it through a puncture in the skin surface; and its sharp edges are maneuvered under the scar in a repetitive back and forth movement. The idea is to break the fibrous tissue that has secured the blemished skin to the underlying tissue. With this procedure, the depression is removed by the releasing action of the treatment. It frees up the skin surface for the underlying tissue. This wound causes the skin to be even and smooth.

Once subscision has been done, we can continue to smooth out the area using gentler methods like microdermabrasion and/or chemical peels.
