Dr. Jodie Reinertson is one of the pioneers of the Thermage procedure in Seattle and CosMedic Skincare has performed more Thermage procedures than any other local office. Our Medical Aestheticians continue to be on the leading edge of this breakthrough technology and are proud to offer the new CPT Technology at no additional cost to our patients. “Get back The Younger Body you used to have!”

No one likes the effect age has on our bodies. Thermage is a safe, clinically proven way to tighten and contour skin, with improvements in tone and laxity occurring naturally through the stimulation of your own collagen without surgery or injections. Our office is proud to feature the latest upgrade of the Thermage unit, the ultra-fast and powerful Thermage CPT (Comfort Pulse Tip), providing a more comfortable overall experience for you, the patient.

Since plastic surgery has its dangers, downtime, and sticker shock, more and more patients are turning to non-invasive therapies like Thermage to rejuvenate their appearance. Dr. Reinertson can evaluate your skin and determine if Thermage will benefit your skin, your lifestyle and your budget. A free consultation awaits you at our downtown Seattle office.

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a completely non-invasive procedure—no surgery, no injections- that can help you achieve some of the skin tightness and contour that you had in your youth, in a single treatment. Results can last for years depending on your skin condition and aging process. Unlike lasers, Thermage is color blind and works on all skin types and colors, year round.

How does Thermage work?

As we age, the ability to produce collagen slows resulting in wrinkles and sagging skin forms. Thermage speeds up collagen production so that you can attain some of the youth lost to aging. Here at CosMedic Skincare, the procedure is performed as a single treatment that takes from 45 minutes to a few hours depending on the treatment area(s). Thermage utilizes an effective capacitive radiofrequency (RF) technology which safely heats the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating existing collagen and promoting new collagen growth. What’s more, there is little to no downtime so you can quickly resume your normal routine. Thermage is the only non-invasive radiofrequency procedure available that tightens and renews your skin’s collagen in all three distinct layers. Improvements will continue and become even more noticeable for up to six months as new collagen continues to regrow and tighten the skin.

I’ve had Thermage before years ago at another clinic and was not very impressed with the results. After meeting with Dr. Jodie R.. (? hard to spell!) and Katie I learned a lot about the procedure and felt really educated and more informed than I had before. Just two months after my treatment here I am feeling and looking more awake and my coworkers are taking notice. They really know Thermage well here and treat you very well. I’m a believer!

What are the benefits of Thermage?

The skin is made up of three distinct layers: a visible outer layer on the surface called the epidermis, a collagen-rich second layer beneath the surface called the dermis, and a third inner layer beneath the dermis called the subcutaneous layer, also known as the fat layer, containing a web of collagen fibers running through it. When the collagen in these three layers breaks down due to sun exposure, family heredity and the normal aging process, your face begins to sag and wrinkle. Naturally, treatments that work on just the surface do not restore the collagen in the dermis or the inner layer of your skin. Thermage will aggressively encourage the production of new collagen growth as well as tighten existing collagen webs within the dermis to provide tighter, younger-feeling and looking skin. Everyone who has a Thermage procedure will achieve healthier collagen.

Who is a candidate for Thermage?

Thermage is ideal for patients in their early 30’s up to 65 years of age. It best treats mild to moderate skin laxity as well as crepey or wrinkled skin. It is a great option for improving the results of plastic surgery – like a facelift, eyelift or liposuction procedure. It can also improve body shaping following a weight-loss program or pregnancy.

Thermage is safer than invasive cosmetic procedures. It works safely on any skin type or skin color. Best of all, you only need one Thermage treatment to obtain the full benefits — not three to five as you would with other laser tightening treatments. Best of all there is no downtime, so you can quickly resume your daily routine. Thermage is suitable for patients seeking smoothing and tightening as well as contouring and body shaping.

What areas can be treated?

Since Thermage is color blind, it can be performed on all skin types and colors, year round! And unlike injections or fillers, Thermage works on your entire face.

  • Thermage for Body: Hands, Inner & Outer Thighs, Arms, Knees, Buttocks and Abdomen.
  • Thermage for Face: Full Face, Eyes, Chin, Neck, and Upper Lip.

What is a typical procedure like?

Comfortably performed in our office, with the new CPT technology, Thermage has little or no downtime. During your treatment, a topical graph will be applied to your skin concentrating the Thermage energy on the areas that you want treated. The tip of the device’s handpiece gently vibrates while it is pressed against your skin to deliver a pulse of radiofrequency (RF) energy between two stages of skin cooling. Each pulse lasts about a second. The tip cools and protects the epidermis while the energy penetrates deep into the skin to heat collagen fibers in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. The constant cooling protects your skin and makes the treatment more comfortable.

Is the treatment painful?

When the Thermage energy is applied, you will feel a deep but brief heating sensation, which is an indication that collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. To protect the surface of your skin, a coolant is delivered through the tip of the handpiece before, during, and after each application of energy. During your procedure you will be asked for feedback on the level of heat sensation experienced during the procedure to help balance your comfort with maximum results. Heat is absolutely essential to tighten the collagen and stimulate new collagen growth.

What are the common side effects?

Thermage is not suitable for patients with pacemakers, internal defibrillators, or other implanted electrical devices. It is also not recommended for patients who are pregnant or who suffer from an auto-immune disease. During the treatment a deep heating sensation will be noticeable and is an indication that the treatment is stimulating your own collagen production. Common side effects include swelling and reddening. Reddening (if any) typically subsides within a few hours after the treatment. Swelling typically goes down within a day but can last 3-5 days for some patients. Degrees of swelling and reddening vary from person to person. A complete list of potential side effects is available during your consultation.

How long before I notice results?

The effect is natural. At first, you may be the only one to notice the change. Your family and friends may remark that you look rested or ask if you have lost weight. Some patients will notice subtle tightening immediately post-procedure but more noticeable results will be evident 2 months after the treatment with even more results noticeable after 6 months. Results can last for years depending on your skin condition and natural aging process.
